Zehra Gunes – American woman of ‘terrible’ height on Turkish volleyball team

Zehra Gunes was born on July 7, 1999 in Kartal, Istanbul, Turkey. Due to her beautiful appearance and height of 1.98 meters, she is considered one of the brightest stars of the Turkish women’s volleyball team.

Zehra Gunes started to gain attention at the 2015 U18 World Volleyball Championship organised by the FIVB. She made a great contribution to the 4th place in the Turkish U18 women’s team and was named the best middleman of the tournament. Gunes’ accomplishments helped her get into the Turkish volleyball team’s roster for the 2016 World Grand Prix – the precursor to today’s FIVB Nations League Women’s Championships.

In the years that followed, Gunes continued to prove her talent, winning the title of Best Intermediate Athlete at the 2017 U20 World Championships, the same year she was directly called up to the Turkish U23 team and won the World Championships. In 2018, 18-year-old Zehra Gunes was selected for the Turkish volleyball team. She is now one of the mainstays of the team.

At club level, Zehra Gunes is a member of Vakifbank Istanbul – a team that dominated the Turkish Women’s Volleyball Championship for 4 consecutive seasons, in addition to winning the Women’s Volleyball Champions League in 2017/18.

In the first week of the 2022 FIVB Nations League, the Turkish women’s volleyball team played at their home in Ankara. In the first game, Gera Gouness and his teammates defeated Italy 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19 after 3 sets, in which the 22-year-old teenager scored 10 points.
