Rooney’s work at Pride Park has caught the attention of his boyhood club Everton, who have just appointed Frank Lampard as Rafa Benitez’s successor. Rooney has been offered an interview for a job in the Premier League but has no intention of leaving Derby at this time. However, he will not pass up the opportunity to lead Everton or Man Utd in the future.

“I didn’t attend the interview that I was asked to attend,” Rooney revealed. “I’ve always been a challenger, ready for work and fighting hard.

I stood in front of my players and told them ‘I’m with you, believe me, I’m fighting with you’. What kind of person would I be if I took the opportunity given to me and left? Like I said, I’m fighting for the club. I’m trying to get them through it.

And then there’s Everton, Man Utd – two clubs that are always in my heart . Of course, one day I want to manage one of those two clubs.”
