Ignoring the controversy behind the scenes, Matteo Guendouzi is having a pretty successful season at Marseille on loan.

Arsenal's bad boy is praised

Guendouzi has played a very important role in Marseille this season.

The rifts in his relationship with Mikel Arteta appear to have been left behind by Matteo Guendouzi and now the 22-year-old is enjoying the ball in his own way in Marseille.

Coach  Jorge Sampaoli praised Guendouzi as a player with leadership qualities and he is also the leader of Marseille this season.

“Beyond his youth, Matteo has a special energy. He has a desire to win and he is a born leader,”  Sampaoli said at a meeting last month.

“We figured that would be the case, that would happen over time. Add to his performance, we have an energy that everyone could envy.

“It’s contagious and it’s a very important value in life. Experiences are important for everyone, but for young people, sometimes difficult events are not experiences. good.”

“There’s also personal capacity in terms of spirit. For example, Guendouzi, he’s 22 years old but acts like he’s 30. The most important thing is maturity,”  Sampaoli concluded.

Guendouzi joined Arsenal from Lorient in 2018. He was a key member of Arsenal under Unai Emery. However, when Mikel Arteta came to power, things did not go as planned for the French player. Marseille has an option to buy Guendouzi permanently at the end of the season and it is likely that Guendouzi will leave the Gunners next summer.
